Role of Power Electronics in 21st Century
As much as an electronics world fascinates me, it influence much more territories of the world today we know. I have seen its capability all these years especially the current century we are going through. This capability is special to the modern technique world that brings to the electronic system to work to its core. The design, conversion and the control of the electronics to its power, that the electric energy to its electric load makes the Power Electronic System. Everything we feel by the technology around us comes to its original form by the Power Electronics and its developments.
As the modern power system has changed the very modest beginnings to very complex and large systems, which are perhaps the largest enterprise built by humans. Nowadays the power system and its wiring connects every single house to each other and to the power stations together within a country or a certain region. This huge system needs very efficient management, automation and control system. In the same time , the unprecedented economy has amplified the impacts of discoveries of modern societies in ways that have not been predicted. Our current generation can meet the energy challenges like the power quality ,contemporary energy and power issues. Current research plans are centered on the power quality impact of integrating alternative energy sources to the power distribution systems.
Now the power electronic field is cracking the new capabilities of the elements. The critical element to enable rapid design in cycles is accurate spice models, which include thermal performance and calibrated package parasitic as well as quick sampling support, application notes and a world wide infrastructure .The customized SiC and GaN driver ICs based power semiconductors will drive radical inventions in power packaging integration and application. In these times, silicon devices will be nearly eradicated from power switching nodes. And in mean time it will continue to find refuge in highly integrated power ICs and lower voltage regimes. When there is a global supply chain in place, the new focus is moving towards product customization to enable game changing application. Silicon diodes, IGBT’s and super-junction MOSFET drop in replacements have prepared the market for the wide bandgap technologies. There is plenty more potential in tailoring electrical performance for the urge to drive power efficiency ,external driving range, reduce weight ,size, and components counts, and enable novel, breakthrough end application in the consumer field. Like when we witness these changes in power electronics it doesn't have an end in discovering in its capabilities. As a student I know our 21st generation has made achievements in this field but I believe as we all know the discovery will never end for us in a generation. We hope these bring out a better future for the communities around us as the journey of power electronics doesn't have an full stop.
